About Us

The Cora Farmer House, is located in Wilson, North Carolina. It is a significant example of late 19th-century architecture, and its history reflects the broader social and economic changes in the region.

Contruction and Early Inhabitants


The Cora Farmer House was constructed in 1890 by Thomas P. Braswell, a local businessman and farmer. The house was built in a Queen Anne style, which was popular in the United States during that period. The architecture features a steeply pitched roof, ornate gables, and a prominent front porch.

The Farmer Family


Cora Braswell Farmer, the daughter of Thomas P. Braswell, inherited the house. She lived there with her husband, Robert E. Farmer, who was also involved in local agriculture and business. The Farmers were prominent figures in the Wilson community, known for their contributions to local commerce and social activities.

Over the years, the house remained within the Farmer family, passing down through generations. The house witnessed several significant events, including:

Early 20th Century: The house saw the transition from the agricultural economy to more diversified economic activities in Wilson, reflecting broader regional changes.

Mid-20th Century: The property remained a family home, though it saw periods of renovation and preservation efforts, especially as the importance of maintaining historical structures grew.

Cora Farmer House Now!

Recently, the Cora Farmer House has been renovated and transformed into a bed and breakfast and a private event venue. The renovation efforts included updating the roof, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems while preserving the home’s historic character. The house now has a new look both inside and out, with rooms available for rent through Airbnb.

For those interested in historical architecture or looking for a unique place to stay, the Cora Farmer House offers a blend of historical charm and modern amenities. It also serves as an ideal location for hosting small events, such as micro weddings, baby showers, birthday parties, corporate meetings and more...
